Walks |
The locaility surrounding Sizewell is ideal for walking, with the local commons and coastal areas littered with hundreds of walks and nature trails, most of them well trodden and easy to find. Sizewell itself is situated on the long-distance Suffolk Heritage Coastal Footpath, which starts to the south at Felixstowe and continues northwards to Lowestoft.
Not far from the pub, and within easy walking distance, there are the Kenton Hills woodland nature trails — a series of woodland walks which are always a delight to explore with their seasonally changing colours and wildlife. Further up the coast there is Minsmere brid reserve.
If you keep to these well used coastal paths you will not get lost, or if you feel a little braver, then navigate using OS maps and take one of the hundreds of walks across the common to Leiston, Aldringham, Thorpeness or Aldeburgh.
For those wishing to sample a few beers along route then the Booze Trail will take in pubs at Therberton, Middleton, Westleton. Eastbridge and of course ending at the Vulcan where you can rest your weary legs. Though, be warned, this is an all day hike but well worth the effort!
In additon to these well documented trails we have produced a series of Circular walks that begin and end at the Vulcan Arms. They vary from a simple stroll up the coast and back to more extensive trails that need a full afternoon to complete. Full details are listed upon this website as well as downloadable PDF versions which give map detailed, directions and points of interest.
Circular Walk leaflets are always available in the pub so if you are passing then drop in and pick one up.
